Bout of Books 9.0 Wrap Up

bout of books Bout of Books 9.0 ended last night! I didn’t update the last two days because I didn’t reach my goals both days and so I wasn’t really jumping at the bit to talk about it 🙂 On Saturday I read a miserable 10 pages and yesterday only 47. In my defense I had a terrible day Friday for a couple of different reasons and didn’t get home from work til 10:30 and just went straight to bed. Yesterday was all right, I did have to work and came home in the evening determined to meet my goal of 100 pages on the last day of the challenge and finish up Ulysses but as I sat down my brain just went ‘Nope’ and instead I read til the end of the section I was on, popped open some Moscato and turned on the TV. Can’t say I regretted that even though I feel as if I should. But even though yesterday (and Saturday) were technically a fail I’m still super happy that I participated in my first Bout of Books event and can’t wait for the next one! Below are my stats for the entire week:
• Pages read this week: 554. My goal was to read 100 pages a day for 700 pages at the end of the week. Instead I’m 146 pages short for an average of 79 pages read/day. I DID however meet my goal of 100 pages/day for four days this week AND on those four days I exceed my goal! So, while technically I didn’t ‘win’ this challenge I’m still happy with my progress; compared to the average pages I read per day last year, I almost doubled my count this week which I am happy about. And, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be- I just took some planning (which I am terrible at) which I hope will carry over in the rest of my reading this year.
• Books read this week: 0! It seems crazy to me that I read 554 pages this week and yet did not manage to finish a single book! I only read out of thee books this week too- Ulysses, Harry Potter y el prisionero de azkaban, and Emma. For Ulysses I made huge progress; I didn’t finish it yesterday as I was planning but I came really, really close which I am very happy about (I read the last 45 pages of it this morning). As for Harry Potter I didn’t plan on finishing it this week anyway; I was hoping to read a chapter a day at least but I decided to put it on the back burner after a couple of days because I actually might start reading this book in tandem with another blogger and I’m a bit ahead of her right now so I didn’t want to get further ahead in case we do end up trying to finish the books around the same time. As for Emma, I was really hoping to finish it this week! I’m about 150 pages from finishing it- which jsut so happens to be about the number of pages I missed my goal by! I’m really enjoying it though so I’m not too upset since I am loving it SO MUCH. It is SO SO SO GOOD. I’m hoping to finish it up by Wednesday at the latest.
• In conclusion: I didn’t meet any of my goals that I set myself but I did read a lot and am happy with I accomplished! I love community reading events like this and can’t wait to participate in Bout of Books 10 which will be in May!

A very good result, especially considering the difficulty of the reading! I’m catching up a bit with HP, I read one more chapter yesterday, and I hope I’ll read chapter 5 today 🙂

As long as you enjoyed what you did read, I’d say it’s a good week!
